Happy Monday! How are you today? I am feeling like I could happily crawl back into bed for a long nap, but there’s no time for that! I have finishing details on this darn house to manage! We just scheduled our stuff to be delivered from LA in a little over a week. I can’t believe it! I don’t know if I should be excited or terrified at the boxes and junk that are about to invade this unfinished space. lol! The hope is that the house is completely ready (minus a few touch ups etc.) by the time it arrives…but that means 10 days and counting. YIKES!!!
The good news is, with the construction slowing down, life seems to be getting to a place where it feels a little more like a normal existence. This past week John and I had a chance to sneak away for a mid-week date to the Janet Jackson concert. Rhythm Nation was definitely an album that was a big part of my elementary school days, so it was fun to hear all the hits. Janet is looking good for 51! I can’t believe she just had a baby! Whoa!
The kids had a couple of days off for fall break (something we’ve never had before living in CA) so it was fun to have them around during the day. I sure miss them now that they are both in school full time! We tried to explore a few new things here in SLC. We visited Gardner Village for their Witch Fest and it was super cute. The shops really go all out for Halloween. It was a beautiful fall night too…in the 70s! For a minute I felt like I was still at home in CA. 😉
This weekend was a birthday party for one of Ash’s dearest friends. She was having a really tough time not being able to be there, so I took her for a little retail therapy. 😉 How cute is this sweater on her? She loves these glitter shoes and anything that matches them is a must have. 😉
We never expected that the house would take so long to be completed, so we didn’t bring any of our colder weather clothing with us when we moved back in June. Silly us! Aside from the 70 degree evening a few nights ago, it has been kind of freezing here! Poor Ash has had no long sleeved shirts or sweaters, so we hit The Gap and Nordstrom to pick up a few things. There are only 2 Nordstrom stores in the entire state of Utah, so I am grateful we live within a few minutes of one of them! That didn’t play a role in where we picked to live at all. 😉 Or the fact that there is an In-N-Out 5 minutes away either. lol!
A few other things we picked up…
I also needed a baby gift for my cute cousin that is expecting a little girl. Boy do I love shopping for babies. One of my favorite spots is Janie and Jack…especially when they are having their 60% off sale like they are right now! I picked up this DARLING dress that will be perfect for next summer. Can you picture it on the 4th of July? SO cute!! Here are a few more of my sale favorites just in case you or someone you know needs some adorable baby clothes on sale. 😉
SO, what do you think of that cute little puppy Ash is holding above? We spent Saturday visiting…dare I say it…a golden retriever breeder?? This is something that we have been thinking about for a long time, so it’s not a spur of the moment decision, but it doesn’t hurt that we are all having a hard time with the move and would like something cute and fluffy to make life a bit more joyful.
I have never had a dog before. I like dogs, but admittedly I am a bit of a clean freak, and the hair, messes and dog smell are a bit of a worry for me. What should we do? Am I crazy to bring a puppy into the new house? A big part of me feels like not ever having a dog and giving my kids the chance to have one will be something that I will regret…so I’m 95% sure we are doing it. Getting on the wait list for a puppy is definitely a big step. But how can you resist a pile of adorable golden retriever puppies??
Some bowling and chocolate shakes at the famed BYU creamery rounded out our weekend. It’s crazy for me to wander around campus and think that I have a kid almost old enough to be in college! I feel like I was just a student!
As far as the house goes, the new front door was installed on Friday, so now the entry way is completely finished and ready to be painted. What do you think? Here’s the before:
And the after….
I love the new look! I have been waiting for this door since I designed it 8 weeks ago. I’m so excited to have the privacy of the frosted glass, but the added light in the entryway from the full sidelights and 3 windows in the top of the door.
So, what’s on deck for this week? The door was really the last of the “big” projects. A few minor tile installations are left, a few toilets, the half bath vanity, shower doors and hardware and some touch up painting and I think we are ready! Say what?! The day I can take the covers off the floors and the plastic off the windows will be a big day around here! I’m excited to share updates with you here and on Instagram.
I hope you have a wonderful week!
