Here in southern California, September and October are the warmest months of the year. After all the crowds leave to head home from their vacations and back to school, it’s the best time for us locals to head to the beach and really enjoy the outdoors. We have a teeny backyard…a little pie shaped lot without a whole lot of room to run, but you know what, as much as it was a shock to move to Orange County where land is at SUCH a premium, coming from the home where I grew up that practically had a park for a backyard, we have found it to be just perfect for our little family. Because our home isn’t a big one, and the weather here is so nice much of the year, we have really tried to make our little backyard an extension of our home. With the addition of a hand me down fountain that we were lucky enough to be gifted from some friends who weren’t using it, an inexpensive fire pit and some patio furniture (we LOVE this furniture that is practically indestructible and still looks great after being beaten on by the sun for years), we find ourselves out there eating al fresco frequently, and we enjoy our Sunday nights gathered around the fire pit making s’mores and being silly. Do you all use your backyards or whatever outdoor living space you might have, much? With warm days transitioning into slightly cooler fall nights, there is never a better time to enjoy the outdoors. Here are 8 beautiful backyard ideas that will have you sprucing up your patio and heading outdoors to enjoy these gorgeous evenings.
Think of your backyard, or any outdoor space that you have…a patio, a rooftop deck etc., like an addition to the square footage of your home. Make it look like a room and it will get more use. There are so many cute “outdoor specific” furniture and accessories like pillows, rugs and great lighting. They are weather resistant and comfortable and create a beautiful backyard space. Here are some of my favorite backyard pieces right now, many of which are on sale as retailers are clearancing out warmer weather products, trying to make room for holiday decor, which makes it a perfect time for you to pick some up! If you are worried about how things will fare during the winter months, pick up some plastic outdoor furniture covers and you’ll be all set! Click on any image for more information.
